The Pacific Business Trust (PBT) brings back the National Pacific Business Trust Awards on Friday 28 October. Nominations are currently open and close 23rd of September. The awards are for Pacific-owned businesses, Pacific business individuals, Pacific executives working in mainstream organisations and employers of Pacific staff.
The awards celebrate and recognise successes in Pacific business and business people.
PBT Chair Fa’amatuainu (Inu) Tino Pereira encourages anyone eligible to enter, and says the awards give recognition to those that deserve it while also helping to benchmark against others operating in the same space. Finalists will benefit from profile opportunities and by entering they take advantage of free advice, resources and support provided by PBT and their awards partners.
Nominations are open in eight categories:
Pacific Innovation Award
The Pacific Innovation Award is for businesses who can demonstrate innovation to deliver positive outcomes, whether via tangible value, creation of a new market or a competitive advantage. The actions required to deliver this value will be new to the business, and winners will be Pacific businesses that are founded, owned or managed by Pacific people.
Pacific Social Enterprise Award
The Pacific Social Enterprise Award is for organisations that are led by an economic, social, cultural, or environmental mission consistent with a Pacific community benefit, such as reinvesting profits back into the community. Successful nominees will be founded, owned or managed by Pacific people and will have been operating for a minimum of five years.
Pacific Business Employer Award
Winners of the Pacific Business Employer award will proactively invest in the development of their staff to improve the capability of their Pacific workforce. At least 15% of all staff will be of Pacific descent, and not-for-profit and non-Pacific owned enterprises are eligible to enter.
Pacific Business Exporter Award
Successful Pacific Business Exporters will demonstrate a growing percentage of revenue generated by sales to overseas markets for at least three years. Winning businesses will be founded / owned or managed by a person or people of Pacific descent (with a minimum 50% shareholding).
Pacific Business Enterprise Award
A Pacific Business Enterprise will demonstrate innovation and entrepreneurial flair, with a track record of sustainable growth. Successful businesses will be founded / owned and managed by a person or people of Pacific descent and will have been operating for five years or more.
Pacific Business Entrepreneur Award
Successful nominees will be Pacific people in business who can demonstrate innovation and entrepreneurial flair. The winner will be of Pacific descent and will have managed their business for at least three years. This is not a category for ‘business as usual’, it recognises exceptional entrepreneurial spirit and leadership through innovation.
Pacific Woman in Business Award
Successful nominees will be Pacific women in business who can demonstrate innovation and entrepreneurial flair. The winner will be of Pacific descent and will have managed her business for at least three years.
Pacific Business Executive Award
Successful winners of the Pacific Business Executive Award will be individuals of Pacific descent that can demonstrate a track record of successful leadership and innovation. They will be employed within an organisation that isn’t their own, in a senior management or leadership role.
A Supreme Winner will also be chosen from category winners.
Notable past awards winners include Mike Pero Mortgages, Siose Niuhulu of Panorama Painters & Decorators Ltd (now Panorama Group), Adrian Orr (as former Westpac Trust Chief Economist), The Laughing Samoans, MENA and Vinod Kumar of Magsons Hardware, which own the Mega Mitre 10 stores in Henderson and Botany.
