A coconut oil mill in Savai’i Island which is believed to be the first coconut oil mill established there, could start production at the end of this month.

Located at Lefagaoali’i it will be a dream come true for owner Feo Nemaia Esau who said the Electric Power Corporation has to install a special transformer before the mill can operate.

Announced in February the mill is based on Feo’s strong belief the coconut tree is the strongest pillar of Samoa’s economy.

“It provides equal monetary opportunities for every single household in this country,” he said.

“And with the current demand for coconut oil for the manufacture of fuel, food, medications and cosmetics, the opportunity is there for us to seize.”

His mill can produce 4,000 litres of oil a day and is 90 per cent automatic, said Feo.
