In celebration of Niue Language week, we thought that this week would be a perfect time to celebrate some of our favourite Niuean musicians.

1) OMC
The singer who put New Zealand on the map with an international Number 1 hit was also of Niuean descent. With his father coming from Mutalau in Niue, OMC is one of the most successful and well known Niuean artists.
2) Malcom Lakatani
Malcom Lakatani is a familiar face within the New Zealand music scene. As a talented singer/songwriter he has performed at the Pacific Music Awards and at the Miss Aotearoa Niue pageant. Check out his performance at this years PMA’s.
3) Stephanie Tauevihi
Ex- Shortland Street Actress Stephanie Tauevihi performs “Under the Milky Way” with New Zealand band Strawpeople. Her father is from the village of Hakupu in Niue.
4) Chefu
Chefu is one of New Zealand’s most celebrated and successful artists. Proud of his Niuean roots, the artist’s father Tigilau Ness, comes from Taumakautoga, Mutalau and Alofi in Niue. Here is an oldie but a goodie- “Chains” by DLT and Che Fu.
5) Tyree
Tyree is one third of New Zealand hip hop group Smashproof. Both of his parents are of Niuean descent and his father is from Alofi/Mutalau and Mother, Alofi/Lakepa. Check out his solo song “I want it all.”
