Adventurer at Heart

Samoan World Champion Adventure Racer Nathan Fa’avae has released an outstanding book on his stunning career.

The 2015 Adventure Racing World Series (AR World Series 2015) is set to be the final time part-Samoan world champion adventure racer, Nathan Fa’avae, captains the New Zealand team after indicating to his team this will be his final year competing at professional level.

Having recently released his autobiography, Adventurer at Heart, a story of how he became a three-time world adventure racing champion, Fa’avae’s career has taken him all over the world.

He’s raced in Mexico and the Emirates, to the deserts of African and the plains of Tibet and China. He’s raced in the peaks and valleys of Nepal, Ecuador, Patagonia, Russia, the European Alps and, of course, New Zealand where he was raised in Nelson.

Adventure racing is a unique expedition race course to test mixed teams of four for up to 10 days of non-stop racing in the disciplines of trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, navigation and more.

In his autobiography Fa’avae states he was “blessed with Samoan genes” and that what really motivates him is the idea of creating freedom and flexibility. Because of this his strategy has always been to plan his season and, like a bear, go hard that season before going into hibernation.
