Continuity of care in Manurewa

Auckland based innovative health organisation, The Fono says the relationship between doctor and patient is one that is special and unique. Providing a continuity of care to the varied and complex needs of patients, while taking a caring approach, takes a special kind of General Practitioner (GP).

After more than thirty years in operation, husband and wife team Drs Clarice and Colin Bennett are retiring from their bustling Manurewa practice. The couple leave behind a loyal following of local families they have served with caring and professional service.

Dr Colin Bennett says handing over the reins of Manurewa Family Doctors to The Fono South seemed like an obvious choice, not only because the two clinics are neighbours at numbers 7 and 9 Halver Road, but because of the caring culture both practices operate with.

“My wife Clarice and I have spent more than thirty years serving our local community and building up our practice. It’s been a wonderful journey, and now it’s time to hand over the baton to another team,” says Doctor Bennett.

“But because of the relationships we’ve built, we couldn’t have just handed them on to anyone. With a culture of caring and experience operating in the local area, The Fono is well placed to serve the needs of our families.”

CEO of The Fono, Tevita Funaki, mirrors Doctor Bennett’s sentiments, and says The Fono is ready to carry on the work of the Bennett’s and look after their Manurewa families.

“It seemed like a natural progression for us to step in, both because we’re right next door and because our practices are built on the same ideals of caring and being there for our community, whatever their needs,” he says.

“We’re looking for a new team to come on board that fit with our philosophy and are ready to hit the ground running in this busy practice.”

Initially The Fono is seeking two new GPs to join the rapidly growing collegial practice. It provides a unique opportunity for a new team to step in and continue building on the foundation built by the Bennetts.

“This is an exciting opportunity in Manurewa for GP’s looking for a new challenge, with lots of potential to grow within an established and loyal practice,” says Tevita.

“I encourage any qualified doctors who identify with our ethos to get in touch and see what we’re all about.”
