Challenges faced by the media throughout the Pacific will be topic of conversation at a panel discussion at The University of Auckland’s Centre for Pacific Studies this Friday.
The discussion, which is open to the public, will be chaired by Senior Lecturer Dr Steven Ratuva, a well-known political commentator and academic specialising in regional politics. While three young Pacific Island journalists currently in New Zealand as part of the Visiting Pacific Journalists Programme, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will take their places on the panel.
Sosikeni Ramese (Keni Lesa) editor of the Samoa Observer, Sunday Samoan and Weekend Observer, also correspondent for Reuters, AFP and Associated Press; Linny Folau photojournalist with Matangi Tonga Online; and Nerys Case political journalist with the Cook Islands News will present their views and analyses around issues pertinent to Pacific media.
During their visit to New Zealand the three journalists will visit the Parliamentary Press Gallery, conduct interviews various Ministers and public officials, and meet with members from Parliament's Pacific Island Friendship Group, journalism tutors and fellow journalists in Wellington and Auckland.
