A fight for control of a Cook Islands community group goes to the High Court at Auckland today.
Pukapuka Community of New Zealand president Nuku Rapana is the target of the court action by group members.
They want the court to unseat Mr Rapana in favour of a new president and board elected in September.
Lawyer Geoff Bilkey says Mr Rapana used the society's assets without board approval in 2009 to borrow $400,000 for a property scheme that has since failed.
The society couldnot repay the loan and Mr Bilkey says it's now threatened with forced sales of its four properties.
In a statement to the court, Mr Rapana said the September election of a new board was unconstitutional and he considers himself still to be president.
